School history


The development of vocational education in Ida-Virumaa began more than 60 years ago. The first industrial school founded on Kukruse In 1946 has expanded to the largest vocational training center in north-eastern Estonia.

Over the years, there have been reorganizations, school combinations and renaming. In 2003, Jõhvi Vocational Secondary School and the Estonian Mine Education Center were merged and Jõhvi Vocational School was formed, in 2005 three schools were merged - Kohtla-Järve Polytechnic, Kohtla-Järve Vocational School and Jõhvi Vocational School, which resulted in the establishment of the Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center in Jõhvi. From 1 September 2016, the Sillamäe Vocational School and the Narva Vocational Training Center were integrated with the Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center. As a result of the merger, Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center will continue to study places in Jõhvi, Sillamäe and Narva in Ida-Viru County.
